Protecting your (likely expensive) and hard to find shoes

Hi all!
Winter is coming up and I'm in shoe protective mode. I used the Ugg spray on my boots and anything I've bought that's suede or leather. It's also made by Deckers and I haven't had a problem with it. If I have leather shoes, usually I just rub coconut oil in them. It works great to keep the leather soft. But if you want them waterproof, then you probably need the ugg spray or this new one I found. It's called LIQUIPROOF (https://liquiproof.co.uk/). It works great! I put it on my canvas and linen ballet flats that I usually wear with bare feet and it's been amazing to keep them looking great (and without the allergy problem).

Hope that helps!

  1. Hi - I have thiuram allergy also, and also love shoes! I so appreciate your help w/the issue of finding footwear. After 4 years I finally found a pair of running shoes from Inov8 1 1/2 yrs. ago but later learned they have started using thiuram mix! I saw the post about Hoka One One but noticed it was one year ago. I contacted the company but couldn't find someone who knew whether their shoes were still thiuram free. Help, please?? I have also contacted Gabor in hopes of finding knee high boots; waiting now to hear back from that company. Thank you so much for sharing all this important info! This allergy is so difficult.

  2. I have recently been diagnosed with a severe contact allergy to rubber accelerators specifically THIURAMS, THIOUREAS and ACRYLATES. I have been told to find rubber- free shoes and Im not having much luck. I live in Canada so I need a good pair of winter boots that will be waterproof and running shoes for daily wear. Do you know if any of manufacturers that make shoes that would not irritate me? Im really struggling to find anything and my allergy is getting worse daily any suggestions you have would be amazing. I look forward to your response. Thank you.

    1. Not sure if this is still relevant since your reply is from last October, but I got winter boots from Kamik a few years ago and have had no problems with them. I only have a thiuram allergy though. I think I have problems with some acrylates as well, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
